The statue was made by a local sculptor for the restaurant 'Neanderhöhle'. It was made around 1928 and supposed to stand in the restaurant`s beer garden.
While laying no claim to a scientifically accurate portrayal, it has become part of the area`s heritage and local history.

The figure owes much to the artist`s imagination and the cliche of the crouched, club-swinging caveman of prehistoric times.
As we now know, he, if wearing modern clothes, would not look totally out of place on our city streets today!

This statue is just 100m from Restaurant Hotel Adi Becher and from Entrance Neanderthal Museum which are both on the other side of the street through the Neanderthal.
