The statue was made by a local sculptor for the restaurant 'Neanderhöhle'. It was made around 1928 and supposed to stand in the restaurant`s beer garden.
While laying no claim to a scientifically accurate portrayal, it has become part of the area`s heritage and local history.
The figure owes much to the artist`s imagination and the cliche of the crouched, club-swinging caveman of prehistoric times.
As we now know, he, if wearing modern clothes, would not look totally out of place on our city streets today!
